Hi! Our next rehearsal is Monday, December 1st on the Main Stage in the Staller Center at SUNY Stony Brook. We will be rehearsing (12/01): Tim will lead us in our first dress rehearsal. This rehearsal will be with the orchestra. The orchestra will be sightreading their parts. This is important for us to know because they will essentially be taking their cues from us, regarding the shaping of the music and phrases. Announcements * Rehearsals in the final week: Monday, December 1st, 6:30-9:30 PM; Wednesday, December 3rd, 6:30-9:30 PM; Friday, December 5th,, 6:30-9:30 PM. Everyone has an assigned seat, and it will probably be difficult not to disrupt the rehearsal once it begins if you arrive after 6:30. * Rehearsals during the first week of December will be on the main stage of the Staller Center. Once you enter the Staller Center, head to box office, turn 180 degrees and to the LEFT of the men's room, head back to the main stage door. * There is NO rehearsal on Tuesday, December 2nd. * Concert Dress -- Women, all black, no pearls. Men, standard tux and bow-tie. * Section Leaders have scores for next season - $20 a score. * Sidonie writes: "My favorite and high recommendation for the St John Passion is conducted by Andrew Parrott, the one from 2002. True, I don't know this work and come to it completely naive, but the performance is fabulous, is all I can say. I have it on my Ipod if anyone wants a sampling and it is downloadable from iTunes, a real bargain." (Thanks, Sid!) * Anne (John Klein's wife) will have pictures and CDs available from Casey. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN . . . ------ Forwarded Message From: "James Anderson" Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2008 11:14:30 -0500 To: "Valerie Godfrey" Subject: Plea for (musical) help Valerie & Bill -- I received a call for help this week from a friend of mine, the choir director of a Lutheran church in Centereach. He and his choir are taking on Part 1 of Messiah on Sunday morning, December 14. The choir knows this is stretch for them and have been working on it since May. Brian has also recruited some extras to bolster his ranks (including Vivienne and Selma, who will be sharing the soprano solos, as well as a string quartet), but all of his extra basses have backed out. I have agreed to help out but Brian is still looking for two additional basses for this one time appearance. He can offer a modest stipend. His choir rehearses Tuesday evenings -- he knows anybody from LISCA is unavailable this week, so the time commitment is one rehearsal on 12/9 and the one hour performance Sunday 12/14 at 11 am. 807-4982 Could I impose on you to forward this to LISCA members, please? If any of the basses are willing to take this on -- or if anyone knows of a bass who has "Messiah" in his repertoire -- please contact Brian Moisor at (631) 807-4982. Thanks so much, and happy Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone next week. Jim ------ End of Forwarded Message The First Presbyterian Church of Port Jefferson is seeking singers for 'Mendelssohn Sunday' on Sunday, 12/21. The expanded choir will be singing "He Watching Over Israel" and "Lift Thine Eyes" from Elijah. We will also be singing "Angels We Have Heard on High". Prep rehearsals will take place on Sunday AMs, after the 10 AM services. Two rehearsals for those who have already sung the pieces will take place on the previous two Sundays 12/7 and 12/14, at 11:30 AM (1/2 hour to 45 minutes). Please contact Mike Bussewitz at 849-4185 or michael_bussewitz@yahoo.com, if you would like to be part of the choir. The Christ Episcopal Church in Bellport extends an invitation to sing in their choir under the direction of Maurice Kemp. The Bellport United Methodist Church invites singers to join them. See Mark Barton if you are interested. Still CDs available! "Katie's Concert '07: A Christmas Candlelight Service" CD.
